Rothberg Sweeps Long Beach Weekend in GT America

Turner Motorsport’s Justin Rothberg completed a dominant weekend on the streets of Long beach with back-to-back wins in GT America, while teammates Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher secured a top five finish in IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Rothberg’s weekend began with a thrilling comeback in Saturday’s GT America race one. After starting the No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from fourth, he slipped back to fifth in the opening laps but fought his way back up to second by the halfway point of the 40-minute sprint. On the final lap, the race leader suffered a mechanical issue allowing the Rothberg to inherit the lead and take the win.

On Sunday, Rothberg charged to the lead in turn one after starting from second and never looked back. The Turner BMW led every lap in the caution-free race to cross the finish line 2.482 seconds ahead of second place. The win marked the first repeat winner of the GT America season and new championship points leader.

“A weekend sweep at Long Beach was unexpected, but feels amazing,” said Rothberg. “The first race was a real fight, and the second was more just trying to hit my marks and bring the car clean while maintaining the gap. I couldn’t be happier. This is one of the coolest tracks to win at - not only once but twice. The Turner team gave me an incredible car both days, and I’m looking forward to COTA in two weeks with some good momentum behind us.”

The GT America season continues in Austin, Texas at Circuit of the Americas April 25-27.
