Getting Ready for Road Atlanta, a Real Georgia Rollercoaster

A long-awaited reunion is just over the horizon of the Georgia hills. For the first time since 2011, SRO America is returning to one of North America’s greatest road course circuits. From June 12th to 14th, GT World Atlanta is bringing world-class GT racing to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, featuring over 100 race cars across six different championships that will take on a track renowned for its elevation changes, challenging technical components, and high speed sectors.

Tucked into the rolling hills of northeast Georgia, the 2.54-mile circuit has built an impressive reputation over more than five decades as a place where commitment is rewarded and mistakes are punished, putting extra emphasis on the fine line between risk vs. reward.

Unlike circuits that are broken up by heavy braking zones and characterized by rapid deceleration and acceleration, Road Atlanta is predicated on creating a flowing rhythm. Drivers are instead tasked with linking together a series of fast corners while navigating dramatic elevation changes that can create doubt over blind crests. A fast lap requires precision from start to finish as every corner influences the next one, making continuous momentum a valuable commodity and mistakes costly.

The circuit rises and falls over the Georgia countryside, creating a revolving door of changing perspectives. Drivers often describe the track as one that must be learned through firsthand experience because it is too difficult to capture its true character otherwise.

The climb through Turn 5 launches cars onto the back straight, while the plunge down into the final corners creates one of the most iconic sequences in sports car racing. Those elevation changes add another layer of complexity to braking, balance, and tire management. But if there's a signature section of Road Atlanta that anyone will recognize, it's the sweeping esses. Drivers carry significant speed through these corners, and even the most minor error can quickly snowball into proper trouble.

The circuit has hosted generations of iconic events and championship battles, becoming one of the premier destinations for GT competition in North America. Its layout naturally lends itself to multi-class racing, where traffic management and looking in your mirrors becomes just as important as being fast. That heritage and prestige makes it an impeccably fitting stage for SRO America's highly anticipated return.

Beyond the on-track challenge, Road Atlanta delivers some of the most scenic ways to take in all the action. The layout provides excellent viewing opportunities, allowing fans to experience multiple sections of the circuit from a variety of vantage points. Combine that with SRO’s family-friendly and electrifying Fan Zone activations, and you’ll find endless entertainment all weekend long.
