Gidley Charges to GT America Race 2 Victory at Sebring, Bell Sweeps the GT4 Weekend

GT America powered by AWS returned to the track for Race 2 at Sebring International Raceway to close out the weekend, with the Florida heat once again setting the stage for a demanding sprint to the finish. However, the race got off to an unusual start, with the green flag replaced by caution after Jon Manship found the wall on the formation lap in the No. 216 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R.

Once the field settled back into rhythm, battles quickly began unfolding across the SRO3, GT2, Cup, and GT4 classes, with Memo Gidley ultimately delivering a standout drive to claim victory.

SRO3 Class

Kyle Washington led the field away from pole position in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R, but Memo Gidley wasted no time making his presence known in the No. 56 SKI AUTOSPORTS Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVOIII. Gidley gained one position early on, moving past Mirco Schultis in the No. 70 MISHUMOTORS Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R to take over second place.

From there, Gidley began closing in on Washington, setting up a fight for the overall lead. By Lap 5, Gidley had completed the move, taking command of the race and beginning to build his advantage at the front.

Behind the leaders, the action was just as intense. Ross Chouest, aboard the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R, found himself locked in a spirited battle with Scott Blind in the No. 45 Ruckus Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R for sixth place. Chouest ultimately got the better of Blind and quickly turned his attention to Marc Muzzo in the No. 013 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3, applying pressure for fifth place while Blind stayed close behind, ready to join the fight.

Meanwhile, Schultis was forced to defend from Tony Davis in the No. 04 HP-TECH Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO. Davis continued to push and eventually found his way through on Lap 12, moving into third place. One lap later, Schultis went off track, allowing Muzzo, Chouest, and Blind to move past and relegating the Callaway Corvette to seventh.

In the closing laps, Blind continued to attack Chouest in the fight for a spot inside the top five, but at the front, Gidley remained in control. The SKI AUTOSPORTS driver went on to claim the Race 2 victory, adding the fastest lap of the race for good measure. Washington finished second, with Davis completing the SRO3 podium.

" What a weekend at Sebring," exclaimed Memo Gidley. "It was not easy, it was so hot out here. Yesterday's race was amazingly hot. Our car was working okay, but not great. We were able to pull off a second place yesterday, and then today made a few changes. It was just a joy to drive, and we ended up first place. To all the SKI AUTOSPORTS team working in this heat, and all the people that came out to watch the race, thank you very much. I appreciate it."

GT2 & Cup Class

In GT2, Lawrence Tomlinson put the No. 62 Dollahite Racing Ginetta G56 GT2 to work, making full use of the 800-plus horsepower machine around Sebring’s demanding layout. Tomlinson charged through the field and gained three positions overall throughout the race, delivering a strong run in the GT2 category.

In the Cup class, David Lecko took the start from the lead aboard the No. 89 RacingSupport Ginetta GTP8, with Corey Deeds following closely in the No. 8 5.2 Motorsports Ginetta GTP8. The pair kept the class battle alive as the race unfolded.

GT4 Class

In GT4, series veteran Jason Bell continued to show his strength at Sebring, taking control of the class race in the No. 2 Racers Edge Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. Bell delivered another polished performance to secure his second victory of the weekend under the Florida sun.

Craig Lumsden followed in second place in the No. 610 Colorado Motorsports by Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW M4 GT4, completing a strong run in the GT4 class.

“It was great to come back here,” said Bell. “I’m going to be racing in the remainder of the season, so I’m excited. That was fun!”
