Flying Lizard Closes Out SRO America Season on a High Note

Flying Lizard Motorsports wrapped up three championship efforts this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the conclusion of the 2025 SRO America season. The 24-time team and driver champions celebrated multiple podium finishes, highlighted by driver Brandon Kreutz clinching the Papaya Cup championship in McLaren Trophy America.

“We couldn’t have asked for a stronger finish,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “Every car made it to the podium at some point, we secured a McLaren championship title, and our drivers delivered impressive performances despite challenging weather conditions. As we wrap up the season, our focus now shifts to finalizing programs for 2026 and kicking off our offseason testing. With the pace of the sport today, there's hardly such a thing as an ‘offseason’ anymore!”

Due to an incident in qualifying, the Lamborghini of Evan King was unable to compete in the weekend’s two races.

GT America

Craig Lumsden made his GT America debut from third in class, racing the No. 610 BMW GT4. He navigated turn one cleanly, avoiding spun cars to continue a smooth and incident-free run. Lumsden accomplished his goal of completing a clean race while steadily improving his lap times and race craft, earning a third-place finish in his debut.

The senior Lumsden returned for race two on Sunday morning in mixed conditions, starting on rain tires while several competitors opted for slicks. The race began under caution, but he gained three overall positions as others pitted to change tires. Starting second in class, Lumsden took the lead on the opening lap before engaging in a side-by-side battle with the No. 83 of Jozsef Petkes. Ultimately, he brought the car home in second place, securing a second podium finish in his debut weekend.

GT4 America

Zach Lumsden started the opening GT4 America race from eighth in the Am class and 25th overall under chilly but sunny skies. The field went four-wide at the start, and Lumsden wisely held back in the No. 413 BMW GT4, avoiding a multi-car turn-one incident that brought out a full-course caution. Cleanup consumed the first 23 minutes of the 60-minute race, with the green flag flying again with 36 minutes to go. Restarting sixth in class, Lumsden ran clean laps before handing over to Kris Wilson with 25 minutes remaining.

Wilson rejoined in sixth and immediately began closing the gap to the competition, gaining a second per lap on the No. 72 of Kenny Schmied. Despite his strong pace, time ran out before he could make the pass, resulting in a sixth-place finish in class.

Wilson started race two from fourth in the Am class under mixed conditions, with early laps run under full-course caution. Once racing resumed, he climbed to third and set his sights on the No. 36 of Charlie Postins. After pitting in third, Zach Lumsden took over and rejoined in sixth with 28 minutes remaining. With rain looming, he pushed forward and climbed back into the top three, earning a second podium finish for the pair in two races.

McLaren Trophy

Brandon Kreutz started race one from fourth after a strong qualifying session. He avoided early trouble in the opening corners and capitalized on trouble for the No. 10 entry to move up to third within the first ten minutes. Kreutz maintained position until the halfway mark, when he pitted for the mandatory driver change to hand over the No. 18 McLaren to Canaan O’Connell. The pair finished fourth in Pro-Am and first in the Papaya Cup, giving Kreutz the championship lead heading into the final race.

O’Connell started race two from fourth and immediately applied pressure on sports car veteran Andrew Davis for third place. Though unable to complete the pass, he kept the fight close before handing the car over to Kreutz for the final stint. Kreutz rejoined in fourth and took advantage of the No. 10 of John Dempsey struggling to maintain pace, securing third place in the final minutes. The result earned another podium for the pair and clinched the Papaya Cup championship for gentleman drivers.

The Lizards will close out their 2025 season in Italy this November, competing in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals.
