Ginetta has announced that it will compete in the SRO GT America series for the very first time, marking the start of a significant new chapter in the British brand's North American growth story. The British company will enter the top level of US GT racing, running a dedicated one-make ‘spec’ series for its V8-powered GTP8 cars within the SRO GT America championship.
The move represents just the latest stage in Ginetta's strategic expansion into the North American market, and follows the success of Ginetta's North America Challenge series, which has helped build a strong reputation for the brand stateside.
The star of the new series, the Ginetta GTP8, will be seen in public in the US for the first time at the next SRO GT America round, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Running from the 16th to 19th October, the car will be on public display, shown off to teams and fans alike at the iconic circuit.
The move is the natural next step for the Ginetta brand in North America and follows the great success of the America GT challenge in recent years. The GTP8's arrival in SRO GT America opens up fresh opportunities for both existing Ginetta customers and new teams looking to compete at the highest level of American GT racing. It will offer a further route to progression for aspiring racers in the United States and beyond, enabling them to take the next step in their driver development, all within the carefully managed Ginetta environment - a proven pathway to the top table of motorsport.
Ginetta alumni, including Lando Norris, Jamie Chadwick and Issac Hadjar, have gone on to race in championships such as the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Formula 2, IndyCar, FIA World Endurance and IMSA Sportscars.
Ginetta GTP8: V8 powered, built in the UK
The Ginetta GTP8 offers the next level of GT performance. It is a purpose-built racing machine designed and manufactured at Ginetta's headquarters near Leeds, England. At its heart sits a thunderous 6.2-litre V8 engine produced in-house, developing 390bhp and giving the 2769lbs machine true big-league performance.
The car features a sealed Xtrac transaxle with E-shift actuator for immediate gear changes, while Bosch Motorsport ABS ensures optimal braking performance and driver confidence. Stopping power comes from six-pot front Alcon callipers paired with 380mm discs, which effortlessly scrub off speed, corner after corner, lap after lap.
Designed to offer accessibility without compromising on performance, the GTP8 strikes a balance between exhilarating raw speed and drivability, making it an ideal platform for both developing talent and experienced racers looking to compete in professional GT competition.
Mike Simpson, Chief Executive of Ginetta Motorsport, said: "Bringing our V8 to the United States marks an exciting new chapter for Ginetta. SRO GT America is the perfect stage to showcase this car, which blends raw performance and accessibility with proven engineering. We're proud to expand our footprint further into the world's most dynamic motorsport market and offer American drivers and teams a genuine pathway into top level GT spec racing."
Greg Gill, President, SRO America, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Ginetta and the GTP8 to the SRO America paddock. It underscores the continued growth and diversity of our GT America series, and their arrival marks an exciting step forward in broadening the opportunities available to North American drivers and teams within our GT platform. Ginetta’s commitment to delivering accessible, competitive racing aligns perfectly with SRO’s own mission, and the GTP8 brings a fresh new dimension to the grid and provides an exciting, attainable path for both aspiring and experienced competitors. We look forward to seeing them join our paddock and to watching this program thrive on American soil.”
Ginetta’s US backstory
Ginetta's expansion across the Atlantic has gathered significant momentum in recent years. The brand established its North American headquarters in partnership with TMI Autotech in South Boston, Virginia, and has successfully run the Ginetta Challenge series for a number of years, providing a proven platform for drivers to develop their skills in the V6-powered G56 GTA.
The addition of the V8 GTP to SRO GT America builds on this foundation, offering customers and teams a clear route to the very top of GT racing, underpinned by the brand's proven track record of developing championship-winning drivers and its unwavering commitment to delivering accessible, high-performance motorsport.
