Rothberg, Moses, and Fitzpatrick Go Two-for-Two at VIR

Sunday morning’s Race 2 for GT America powered by AWS at VIRginia International Raceway brought a fitting close to a weekend full of determination and dominant performances. As the green flag flew over the scenic circuit, several drivers delivered perfect weekends by sweeping both races.

Justin Rothberg and Turner Motorsport further extended their championship lead in the SRO3 class by scoring double wins, while CJ Moses and Michael Fitzpatrick both took the top step yet again in the GT2 and GT4 categories.

SRO3 Class

Justin Rothberg once again made the most of his starting position, launching cleanly from pole in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 and pulling away early. While Memo Gidley in the No. 56 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II initially kept him honest, Kyle Washington in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R added pressure to the front of the pack, challenging Gidley for P2 almost immediately.

Unfortunately, Jason Bell’s day ended early in the No. 2 Racers Edge Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO, as a potential wiring issue lingering from an incident the day prior resulted in the fire suppression system spraying inside the cockpit despite no fire. It forced him to retire at the halfway mark.

In the second portion of the race, Washington ramped up his pace and began matching lap times with the leaders. Rothberg encountered traffic as the final laps approached, but managed it cleanly to maintain his advantage and seal a perfect weekend sweep. Gidley held on for his second runner-up finish of the weekend, while Washington rounded off the podium with a well-earned third place.

“ We're starting off on a good note and hopefully we can execute later,” said Justin Rothberg, referring to his upcoming race in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS this afternoon. “This was a tough race. Mimo Gidley was on me the entire time, but it seems his tires started to fall off towards the end, so I got a little chance to break away and it worked out well.”

GT2 & GT4 Class

It was another set of commanding class victories as CJ Moses drove the No. 58 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2 to a clean GT2 win.

In GT4, Michael Fitzpatrick replicated his Race 1 success in the No. 89 89x Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, claiming his second win of the weekend with a controlled and confident drive.
