- Turner Motorsport Rises to the Top of the SRO3 Class
- Rotek Racing Scores Another GT4 Pole Position
- Final Qualifying Results
It was a bright and early start to the day for the GT America powered by AWS field as they headed out for their quick fifteen-minute Qualifying session on Friday morning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Justin Rothberg locked in the best overall time of the session and will lead the pack in Race 1 later this afternoon. In the GT4 class, Isaac Sherman was flawless yet again as he added another pole position to his collection.
SRO3 Class
Jason Daskalos put in a series of fast laps in his No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 that kept him at the top of the leaderboard for the first half of the session. That is until Justin Rothberg powered through in his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 to put in a time of 1:24.413, clinching the ROWE Pole Position Award in the process.
In the final laps, a couple of other competitors were able to get closer to Rothberg’s pace, but were not quite able to catch him. James Sofronas will line up alongside him to take the green flag in the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3.
Meanwhile, Johnny O'Connell and Mirco Schultis are set to occupy the second row of the grid with their respective No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 and No. 70 MISHUMOTORS Callaway Corvette Z06R GT3 machines. Consequently, Daskalos had to settle for fifth place.
In the GT2 class, Dan Knox and CJ Moses set the eighth and tenth-fastest lap times overall in the No. 10 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT2 and No. 58 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2.
GT4 Class
Isaac Sherman was unstoppable in his No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 as he set an early fast lap of 1:30.455, earning him pole position in the GT4 class. However, Swearingin came close to edging him out in his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, sitting only 0.811 seconds behind.
Gray Newell’s margin was even tighter, as the Heart of Racing driver was only 0.167 seconds away from second place. The No. 25 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 will be starting from third place, with the No. 5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan NISMO GT4 of Damir Hot lining up alongside him after setting the fourth-fastest lap time of the GT4 class.
