Today's events at VIRginia International Raceway are being shaped by challenging weather conditions. Due to persistent rain, the GT America powered by AWS qualifying session was canceled and replaced with an additional practice session. Consequently, the starting grid for Race 1 has been determined based on the times from Friday afternoon’s Practice 2 session.
Justin Rothberg, driving the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, will start from pole position in the SRO3 class, while Curt Swearingin will lead the GT4 field in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
SRO3 Class
Johnny O’Connell was leading for the majority of the damp session in his No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3, but it was championship leader Jason Daskalos who jumped up to the top of the timesheets in the final laps of the short fifteen in his No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Scott Smithson rounded off the Top 3 in the No. 08 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R as he utilized the opportunity to get more experience running in wet weather conditions. Jason Bell followed suit in the No. 2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 EVO, as did Kyle Washington in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R, which is sporting a brand new livery.
GT4 Class
Curt Swearingin picked up where he left off in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, claiming the top spot in the free practice session, just ahead of Isaac Sherman in the No. 099 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
Damir Hot completed seven laps on board his No. 05 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4, concluding the session in third. Nicholas Shanny and Gray Newell completed the Top 5 in the No. 21 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M4 GT4 G82 and the No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.
