The GT America powered by AWS series opened the GT Sonoma protected by Crowdstrike weekend with Practice One. The cool temperatures increased the warmup requirement as teams began shaking down their machines.
A total of 26 cars took to Sonoma Raceway for Practice One. The SRO3 and GT4 classes tried to capitalize on the 30-minute session which featured a long red flag reducing green track time by 10 minutes. With six minutes remaining a light rain fell over the circuit.
SRO3 Class
In the SRO3 Class Mercedes dominated the first practice. Ziad Ghandour in the No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 finished the session on top with 1:42.843 on lap two. Scott Smithson of DXDTracing in the No. 08 Mercedes AMG GT3 ran his fastest lap on lap three along with teammate Jeff Burton in the No. 91 Mercedes AMG GT3. Jason Daskalos of CRP Racing in the No. 27 Mercedes AMG GT3 finished the session fourth fastest followed by George Kurtz in the No. 04 Crowdstrike by Riley Mercedes AMG GT3.
GT4 Class
Jason Bell continued his domination in the GT4 Class with his No. 2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martine Vantage GT4 running a 1:53.313. The No. 099 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Robb Holland followed behind with a 1:56.701 lap. The Porsche broke up a run of Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. Ross Chouest in the No. 50 of Chouest Povoledo Racing and Todd Coleman of Archangel Motorsports in the No. 69 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 took third and fourth, respectively. Finishing the session fifth was the BMW M4 GT4 of Rob Walker and Auto Technic Racing.
