ELKHART LAKE, WI – Utah businessman/racer Jeff Burton continued his celebration on the victory podium last weekend at the historic Road America road circuit with second and third place finishes in the GT3 Masters class in the GT America Sprint action for the SRO America doubleheader weekend.
Burton, driving the No. 191 Burton Lumber/Rearden Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 sports car which he piloted to two Masters class Nashville street wins earlier this month, fought hard with a variety of tough competitors in the SRO3 and Masters categories of the GT America powered by aws series in both 40-minute feature events at the famed four-mile road course.
In the 19-lap Saturday event, Burton battled several SRO3 class racers in traffic to get close to his Master division rivals but Jeff had to settle for third behind Charlie Luck and Andy Wilzoch.
The Sunday GT America contest was an incident-filled affair with only eight laps being completed in the 40-minute sprint race window, but Burton placed second overall and runner-up to Wilzoch in the Masters division at the checkered flag for another solid weekend for the Rearden Racing squad.
Burton then teamed with veteran Vesko Kozarov in the high-competitive Fanatec GT World Challenge America two-driver doubleheader races with the No. 91 Burton Lumber/Rearden Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 sports car and recorded fifth and sixth places in the Pro-Am class.
“Jeff did another very good job in the Sprint events at Road America with two podium finishes,” said team owner Lara Tallman. “There was some pretty wild action in those two races, and he was able to secure his car in second and third. We began the season with new equipment in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 cars and the learning process was hard in the beginning. Of course, we are still learning with the cars, but our Rearden Racing team is giving Jeff and Vesko solid cars with each event. Now, we’ll prepare for another doubleheader in Watkins Glen next month.”
The GT America sprint doubleheader highlights at Road America will be televised on the CBS Sports Network on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 9 p.m. EDT/6 p.m. PDT with an encore presentation set for Thursday, Sept. 9, at 1:30 a.m. EDT/10:30 p.m. PDT (Sept. 8).
Burton, Kozarov and the Utah-based Rearden Racing organization now moves to another legendary road circuit next month with the Watkins Glen International doubleheader race weekend at the New York State racing facility.
