Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - Hot off the heels of a scorcher in Nashville, GT America powered by AWS competitors now head to the northern heartland at Wisconsin’s Road America on August 27th to 29th presented by CrowdStrike. The return to full-series weekends kicks off with the second annual GT Parade and Welcome Party on Thursday, August 26th, as SRO and the locals celebrate the history and spectacle of GT racing at the 4.025-mile, 14-turn circuit at Road America.

SRO3 Podium Up for Grabs

With the season past the halfway point, it’s still anyone’s guess as to who’s going to reign supreme in the contentious SRO3 class. The representation of machinery in the Top 6 Drivers championship standings runs the gamut from older Audi Sport and Porsche models to newer Mercedes-AMG and Lamborghini units. The Manufacturer championship is as wide open as ever with two manufacturers within overtaking range going into the weekend, and two more just outside of the striking-distance window.

Coming out of the GT America-only appearance at the Music City Grand Prix, Charlie Luck has managed to take the top spot in the SRO3 class. The #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche driver will aim to keep the pedal to the metal and break away from the pack in both Overall and Masters competition.

George Kurtz, sitting in second-place in the Driver’s standings, will run two-series duty this weekend as he attempts to recapture the top spot in the #04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG. He will be joined on the grid in this series by teammate CJ Moses, running his first GT3 campaign this season in the #58 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG.

The Rearden Racing team comes to Road America in high spirits as driver Jeff Burton (#191 Lamborghini Huracan GT3) carries his Nashville Masters class win in tow. The high overall finishes in the Music City put Burton just one point behind second place in the Drivers standings and well within a weekend’s reach of the top SRO3 spot.

Another dual-series competitor, Zelus Motorsports’ Jason Harward (#88 Lamborghini Huracan GT3), continues to keep pace in both series and has worked his way into fourth place of the Drivers championship here in GT America. This could be the weekend that sees him climb ever closer to the Top 3 championship competitors, sitting only five points out of the third place spot.

Brendan Iribe, the Am half of the GTWCA Pro-Am inception racing campaign, started a late GT America season but managed a three-podium in four-entries season, including a win at his last run at VIR. The #70 McLaren 720S GT3 driver returns to another two-series, double-header four-race workload sitting in fourth place in this single-driver SRO3 category.

GMG Racing principal James Sofronas is back in the #14 Audi R8 LMS Ultra after a mixed-results weekend in Nashville that included first-place hardware. As well, teammate Kyle Washington will saddle up in his #32 Porsche 911 GT3-R (991.2) in the GMG paddock at Road America.

Jason Daskalos (#27 Daskalos Motorsports Audi R8 LMS) is also back with a podium showing from Nashville under his belt. From his points standings, a fantastic weekend sweep at Road America could put him a solid second-place, hot on the heels of the top spot.

Flying Lizard Motorsports returns to SRO America with its #460 Porsche 911 GT3-R (992.2) piloted by Masters class driver Andy Wilzoch. Meanwhile, newcomer to the series and sharing paddock space with Wilzoch and Flying Lizard is #101 TKO with Flying Lizard Motorsports driver Memo Gidley, who will arrive to campaign the Lizard’s recently-acquired Bentley Continental GT3.

Also new for the season, TR3 Racing will contest the championship in the #10 Lamborghini Huracan GT3, with Master driver John Megrue at the helm.

GT4 Title on the Line

Stephen Cameron Racing driver Sean Quinlan (#119 BMW M4 GT4) currently sits at the top of the Drivers championship contingent and is returning to defend that position and possibly increase the gap of the lead. Teammate Alain Stad, driving the #619 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR hopes to draft his way to a few podium experiences and help secure the Team championship as well.

Sitting in second place but easily in striking distance is Rotek Racing driver Robb Holland. The #99 Ford Mustang GT4 driver is refreshed coming off a podium and points weekend in Nashville.

Poster-child for consistency Jason Bell has been in the points throughout the season with two podium appearances under his belt. He’ll look to push this weekend to secure the top step in the #2 GMG Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.

ROTR Motorsport’s Alex Welch (#76 Audi R8 LMS GT4) will continue his quest at Road America for the championship title. Welch seems to have found pace recently and brought home a win and a podium showing from his Music City Grand Prix excursion.

Sitting just behind Welch in the GT4 Driver standings are the two RENNtech Motorsports drivers Chris Cagnazzi (#39 Mercedes-AMG GT4), who brought home the other race win from the Music City GP double-header, and Ross Chouest (#89 Mercedes-AMG GT4) behind him in sixth place on the standings. They will be joined by Pirelli GT4 America contender Christopher Gumprecht, who will drive the #79 RENNtech Motorsports Mercedes-AMG entry.

Gray Newell (#25 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4) is also scheduled for a return in his first contention of an SRO series under the Heart of Racing Team banner.

Black Swan Racing is also returning with principal Tim Pappas once again behind the wheel of the #54 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR, as will Premier Racing’s Adam Adelson in the #120-badged Porsche variant.

Three new entries, including one new to the SRO America paddock this year, will also contest the GT4 class; Automatic Racing’s Paul Kiebler will compete in the #09 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4; Capstone Motorsports principal John Allen will cross the Pirelli GT4 America paddock line and campaign his #16 Mercedes-AMG GT4; and NOLASPORT will add Scott Noble’s single-driver GT sprint campaign in the #49 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR to its paddock space.
