David Lecko’s debut season in SRO America competition was certainly a memorable one, capturing the GT America powered by AWS Cup class championship in the No. 89 RacingSupport Ginetta GTP8. Over the course of his first full-season campaign, Lecko combined steady development, consistent racecraft and a strong partnership with the RacingSupport crew to deliver a landmark result for both his team and Ginetta as the manufacturer continued to expand its presence in North America.
The championship marked a significant milestone in Lecko’s racing career. Competing in a professional series for the first time, he adapted to the demands of GT America while developing his skills in a mixed-class environment. His efforts also helped secure Ginetta’s first victory on North American soil, making the season a memorable one for a brand looking to establish itself in the region.
Moving into SRO America competition presented Lecko with a new level of challenge. Although he had previous experience at the grassroots and club racing level, he knew that competing in a professional environment required not only speed but also consistency, awareness and the ability to navigate traffic efficiently while sharing the circuit with cars from different classes.
“This was my first year in SRO, which was a nice step up to be racing in a pro series,” Lecko said. “I have grown this year in my ability to turn consistent laps throughout each race and stay very comfortable in a mixed class environment. I’m now extremely aware of faster class cars coming up behind me, as well as getting through traffic myself efficiently.”

That growth proved valuable throughout the campaign. In multiclass racing, drivers must balance their own battles with the need to manage closing speeds and make decisive moves around competitors in other classes. Maintaining a consistent rhythm while staying hyperaware changing traffic conditions is essential, particularly over the course of a full race.
Lecko’s development in those areas helped him establish himself as a competitive presence in the Cup class and build the foundation for his championship-winning season. As the year progressed, he gained experience in the rhythms of SRO competition while contributing to a broader effort to showcase the capabilities of the Ginetta GTP8.
The No. 89 RacingSupport entry represented Ginetta during an important period of expansion in the North American market, with the team helping introduce the brand’s new GTP8 to SRO America competition.
For Lecko, the opportunity was especially meaningful. The GTP8 was his third Ginetta, continuing a relationship with the manufacturer while giving him the chance to help champion its latest car on a new stage.
“The RacingSupport team communicates with Ginetta weekly throughout the year,” Lecko shared. “We love the support they show us and collaboration. I enjoyed debuting the brand new GTP8 Car and championing that this year.”

The close communication between RacingSupport and Ginetta helped support the program throughout the season, aligning the team’s on-track efforts with the manufacturer’s wider ambitions.
Lecko also brought significant visibility to the project away from the circuit. Through his social media activity featuring the car, he noted that he generated 7.3 million views over the course of the year, helping introduce the GTP8 to a wider audience and raise awareness of Ginetta’s growing North American presence.
The recognition extended to the RacingSupport crew, whose work behind the scenes was rewarded with the GT America Crew of the Year honor.
With his first SRO America championship secured, Lecko is already considering the next step in his development. His aim is to move into Pirelli GT4 America, a highly competitive environment that would introduce another level of performance and provide a fresh test of his abilities.
“I am always looking to evolve and GT4 America seems like the right next step up from a speed and competitiveness standpoint,” he expressed. “The GT4 field is extremely competitive in SRO, so the idea of moving up to those ranks seems very compelling and will again test and grow my driving abilities.”
The prospect of entering GT4 America would mark another important step in Lecko’s racing career. Having learned to manage the demands of multiclass competition, his first season has provided a strong foundation, but now he’s ready for what’s next.
With the GT America Cup class championship now secured, Lecko closes the season having achieved a historic milestone for Ginetta. If his debut SRO America campaign is any indication, the champion is far from finished pushing himself, and Ginetta, toward new challenges.
