The Crown Coins Casino GT World event came to a close as the GT America powered by AWS field contested Race 2 at Road America. Bathed in sunshine at the National Park of Speed, Race 2 of GT America powered by AWS at Road America delivered high drama from the very first lap, culminating in Ross Chouest taking his first victory of the season in the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
The race got underway with pole-sitter Memo Gidley in the No. 56 SKI Autosport Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVOII leading the charge into Turn 1. However, contact from Kyle Washington in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R sent both cars wide. Gidley was spun around in the process and dropped to the back of the field, while Washington rejoined in third.
The chaos opened the door for Justin Rothberg in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 to slot into second behind Chouest, who inherited the race lead.
Washington wasted no time pressuring Rothberg for the runner-up spot, executing a move within the opening ten minutes. However, the stewards quickly issued a drive-through penalty for his role in the opening-lap incident with Gidley. His race went from bad to worse when he made contact with the wall, forcing him to retire early.
As the race unfolded, the focus turned to the battle for second place between Gidley, staging a remarkable comeback drive through the field, and Rothberg. The two were tangled in a spirited fight before Gidley finally made the move stick just past the halfway mark, securing the runner-up spot.
At the front, Chouest maintained his composure and control, crossing the finish line to score his first GT America powered by AWS victory of the 2025 season. Gidley completed his comeback drive to finish second, while Rothberg rounded out the podium in third.
“ It’s been a bit of adjustment going from GT4 to GT3 but I’m just trying to trust the process,” said Ross Chouest at the podium. “The team's been great, the car was great. I have great support back home with my wife and my daughters.”
“It's always a bit of a balance,” he continued. “Even when there's a decent gap, I try to stick to my routine while managing the tires. You don't want to take too many chances. It's about trying to achieve that balance.”
