- CrowdStrike by Riley Quickest in SRO3
- JTR Motorsports Engineering Scores GT4 Pole Position
- Qualifying Results
It was a bright and early start for the GT America powered by AWS field as they set off for their fifteen-minute Qualifying session to start the Saturday morning action at Sonoma Raceway. George Kurtz was the ROWE Motor Oil Pole Award winner, earning pole position ahead of Race 1. It was a close fight in the GT4 class between Anthony McIntosh and Matt Travis, but ultimately it was the former who went fastest, claiming first place in class.
SRO3 Class
George Kurtz was positively flying around Sonoma Raceway, claiming the highest spot on the timing charts from the get-go. The No. 04 CrowdStrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3, which adorned its fresh new livery, was fastest with a rapid lap time of 1:34.665.
Justin Rothberg was sitting in second for most of the session in his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO, however, Elias Sabo pulled off a successful qualifying attempt late in the game, promoting his No. 80 Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW M4 GT3 EVO up into second place ahead of Rothberg. It was tight between the two contenders as only 0.114 seconds separated the two.
Mirco Shultis was jostling for position for most of the session, but ultimately the No. 70 MISHUMOTORS Callaway Corvette Z06R GT3 driver had to settle for fourth place. The No. 13 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 of Marc Muzzo rounded off the Top 5.
GT4 Class
It was an incredibly tight battle for pole position in the GT4 class, with the Top 5 qualifiers all separated by less than half a second. Originally, it looked as though Max Hewitt would be the one to set the benchmark in his No. 39 van der Steur Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 EVO. However, NOLASPORT’s Matt Travis made a late lunge for the top spot in his No. 47 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport with under five minutes to go.
In the end, it was actually Anthony McIntosh who reigned supreme in his No. 69 JTR Motorsports Engineering Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO2 when it was all said and done, with a time of 1:42.909 putting him at the very front of the grid for Race 1. He was just 0.010 seconds faster than Travis, who was in turn 0.105 speedier than Curt Swearingin, who snuck his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport into third place in the final laps ahead of Hewitt.
Fourth will therefore be occupied by Hewitt, with fifth place belonging to Denny Stripling in the No. 188 Fast Track Racing BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO.
