GT America Back in Action for Practice 1 in Bama

After many years away, SRO America have made their return to Barber Motorsports Park, kicking off the action in Alabama with GT America powered by AWS for their first practice session of the weekend. Drivers utilized the thirty-minute session to familiarize themselves with the track while testing the limits of their machines under cool and cloudy Friday morning conditions.

Justin Rothberg set the best overall time during his fourth lap on board his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 in the SRO3 class, while Isaac Sherman was the top GT4 contender in his No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

SRO3 Class

Following his strong performances in the previous rounds in Wisconsin, Rothberg was back in top form again in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, rising to the top of the leaderboard early in the session. He clocked in a lap time of 1:23.131, putting him 0.294 seconds ahead of Elias Sabo, who secured the second-fastest time of the session on his final flying lap in the No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW M4 GT3.

Bryson Morris took advantage of the extra time on track to get more up to speed with his No. 64 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, locking in the third-fastest time in the process. Jean-Frederic Laberge made a similar late-stage surge in his No. 92 MMG Porsche 992 GT3 R, completing his best trip around Barber on lap 17.

Samantha Tan also made an appearance on the grid, learning the circuit’s layout and intricacies in her No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3, and rounding off the top 5.

GT4 Class

It didn’t take long for championship frontrunner Isaac Sherman to sail away to the top of the timesheets in his No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. With an opportunity in sight to clinch the title this weekend, he is going full speed ahead. Curt Swearingin followed suit in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, sitting just a mere 0.067 seconds away, insinuating that there are close battles still to be expected between these two.

Gray Newell was back on track in his No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, while the top 5 was further completed by Todd Parriott in the No. 31 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, and Nicholas Shanny in the No. 21 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M4 GT4 G82.
