Rothberg and Swearingin Top a Hectic Practice 2

The GT America powered by AWS field returned to the track early Friday afternoon under sunny skies for Practice 2. As temperatures began to rise, the on-track action heated up as well, with competitors pushing themselves throughout the thirty-minute session.

The second practice session was plagued by two red flags, the first one caused by debris and the second one by the No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 of Isaac Sherman stopping on track. As the track went back to green with 4 minutes remaining in the session, drivers were able to set two fast laps before the checkered flag waved. Justin Rothberg prevailed and went quickest in the SRO3 class on the last lap, while Curt Swearingin remained unchallenged all session long in the GT4 class.

SRO3 Class

Drivers kept rotating up and down the leaderboard in the SRO3 class behind James Sofronas as set the pace ealy on in his No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3. However, Jason Daskalos in the No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Jason Bell in the No. 2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT3 both topped the charts in turn after him.

It was a last lap attempt that saw Justin Rothberg put his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 in first place, with a time of 2:08.125 putting him above the rest. Sofronas was second, a mere 0.058 behind. Bell, Daskalos and Kyle Washington in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R rounded off the Top 5.

GT4 Class

Curt Swearingin was the one to beat as the driver clocked in the fastest lap time early in the session aboard his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Gray Newell was closing in on Swearingin his No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, but was unable to best his time, settling for second place.

Todd Parriott came in third commanding the No. 31 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, with local driver Nicholas Shanny claiming fourth in his No. 21 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M4 GT4. Farhan Siddiqi, who had topped the charts in Practice 1, rounded off the Top 5 in his No. 95 FAST MD Racing with Remstar Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4.
