Temperatures gradually began to climb as the GT America powered by AWS grid returned for Practice 2 at Circuit of The Americas in the early afternoon, taking advantage of their second 30-minute session to fine-tune their setups in preparation for Saturday morning’s Qualifying session.
Justin Rothberg was the fastest driver overall and in the SRO3 class in the second practice session, setting a flying lap time of 2:02.947 in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3. Alan Grossberg’s best time of the session was a 2:15.383 in the GT2 Class in the No. 102 TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2. Curt Swearingin went quickest again in the GT4 Class, setting a time of 2:17.298 in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
SRO3 Class
George Kurtz and Jason Daskalos were once again battling back and forth for the top time on the leaderboard, with the advantage initially swinging in Kurtz’s direction on board his No. 04 Crowdstrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3. Daskalos followed behind in his No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, setting the scene for an exciting showdown to come. However, it was Justin Rothberg who went on to set the fastest time in the session with his No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, earning the top spot with a time of 2:05.921. Kurtz and Daskalos finished the session in second and third, respectively.
James Sofronas rose up into fourth place in his No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3, with Johnny O’Connell making another Top 5 appearance in his No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3.
GT2 Class
Alan Grossberg continued to clock in more valuable time on track in his No. 102 TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2. He went on to set his best time of the session on his seventh lap around COTA, with a lap time of 2:15.383 serving as his best time Practice 2.
GT4 Class
Curt Swearingin once again established himself as the fastest in the GT4 class, sweeping both practice sessions in his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, with Gray Newell and Isaac Sherman completing the Top 3 in Practice 2 as well in their No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 and No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
Michael Auriemma returned amongst the frontrunners, finishing the session in fourth in his No. 89 RENNtech Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4, with Damir Hot completing the Top 5 in the No. 5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4.
