Isaac Sherman is a new face in the GT America Powered by AWS championship, but the driver of the No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is ensuring that his name will be remembered this year. He has been a dominant force in the GT4 Class, securing four consecutive wins in the first two rounds of the season in Sonoma and Long Beach.
“This is my first time competing in this series and first time competing with this car,” explained Isaac Sherman. “Right from the very start in Sonoma I felt right at home with the team. We all work so well together, a lot of things clicked for me and we ended up winning both races. It was a pretty awesome weekend and a perfect start to the season.”
“Prior to Sonoma, I had done a test the week before in Colorado, and I instantly felt great in the car. The learning curve wasn’t too much to grasp, it was mostly about learning the flow of a race weekend and doing everything I could in order to make sure I was as best prepared as possible.”
The immediate success, combined with the support and dedication from the team, further encouraged Sherman to commit to a full-season entry.
“Following my first test in Colorado, it was clear to me that Rotek Racing and Robb Holland were the people we wanted to work with. I traveled to Sonoma before the race weekend to do another test with the team, but it got rained out, so we just decided to try doing the first round of the season and take it one step at a time.”
At Sonoma Raceway, Sherman and Rotek Racing collected both race wins, in addition to setting the CrowdStrike Fastest Lap in Race 1, reaffirming his notion that he wanted to set his sights on a full season of competition.
Following the first round at Sonoma Raceway, set in the rolling hills of California wine country, Sherman had to prepare for his next challenge as he was ready to contend with the concrete walls and twists and turns of the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“There was a huge difference between those two tracks, and it requires a lot of mental preparation to be able to adjust to a new setting,” he explained. “The Long Beach street circuit is pretty tight and you are paying attention to how narrow the walls feel at first, but after a few laps, the walls just completely disappeared for me. It’s a great track, very flowy and a lot faster than I thought it was going to be.”
His strengths shone brightly under the California sun, as he set the fastest time in both practice sessions, secured pole position in Qualifying, and clinched both race wins in dominant fashion.
As Sherman heads from the gold coast to the sunshine state for the next round at Sebring International Raceway, he is greatly looking forward to being immersed in the open paddock atmosphere once again.
“Everybody is very friendly, and it is great to be able to welcome so many fans who get to enjoy all the action. It’s a really good experience, and I’m always very happy to see all the happy spectators and their level of passion that continues to drive the sport.”
Turning his focus to this weekend’s two races in Sebring, Sherman is fully concentrated on maximizing his results and continuing his ongoing winning streak.
“We want to win the championship, that’s my goal,” he said. “I’m just trying to do the very best that I can at each event so I can be in a good position by the end of the season.”
Sherman is the current frontrunner in the GT4 Class championship standings, with 100 points total, solidifying him as the one to beat early on.
Outside of racing, Sherman is an avid cook and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors.
“Racing is my passion, but I really enjoy cooking, and I recently started getting into barbecuing a lot. I’m living out in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so we have a lot of mountains in the area so I like to spend a lot of time outside.”
