The GT America Powered by AWS field took to the track early Saturday morning at Sonoma Raceway to commence the race weekend action, setting off around the circuit in pursuit of securing their grid positions in preparation for Race 1 to come later this afternoon.

Elias Sabo, Aaron Farhadi, and Isaac Sherman were the ones to beat in the SRO3, GT2, and GT4 Classes as they set the fastest times, securing pole positions in each of their respective categories.

SRO3 Class

There was a strong mix of drivers in contention for the top spot on the leaderboard in the SRO3 Class, as numerous competitors swapped positions back and forth as time elapsed. In the final minutes of the session, it was Elias Sabo who charged forward and soared to the top of the time sheets in his No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3, securing pole position for Race 1 with his time of 1:34.868. The Newport Beach resident is off to a strong start in his 2024 campaign.

He was followed closely by 2023 Vice Champion Jason Daskalos in the No. 27 CRP/Daskalos Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3, with just 0.065 seconds separating him from Sabo. Johnny O'Connell also raised a challenge in the No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 and will be lining up in third place for the race.

2022 Champion George Kurtz will also be one to watch in his No. 04 Crowdstrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3 as he settled into fourth position in class, remaining within striking distance. Meanwhile, newcomer Justin Rothberg was quick to impress in GT3 machinery as he rounded off the Top 5 in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3.

GT2 Class

The GT2 Class hit the track for the first time, shining bright under the Sonoma sun. The No. 102 TPC Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 of Aaron Farhadi set the fastest lap time of Practice 2, placing first in the GT2 class grid ahead of Race 1.

Brent Holden was second quickest in his GMG Racing No. 44 Mercedes-AMG GT2, with Alan Grossberg rounding up the Top 3 in his  No. 127 TPC Lamborghini Huracan.

GT4 Class

Isaac Sherman set the pace aboard his No. 098 RotekRacing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Though he was a late addition to the GT America series, Sherman lost no time settling in and making his mark within the competitive GT4 field.

Gray Newell also challenged at the front of the pack, and will slot himself alongside Sherman, lining up second in class in his No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. Curt Swearingin also made a strong impression in his No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, securing the third fastest time in class.

They will be accompanied by Todd Parriott and Nicholas Shanny in the No. 13 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 and the No. 21 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M4 GT4.
