O’Connell Splits Points Leaders Gidley and Daskalos on Grid

Woods Wins First GT2 Pole

GT America powered by AWS Qualifying took place bright and early to reawaken the field after a washed-out Practice Two the previous afternoon. The SRO3 Class was up in the air through the final minutes, with points leader Memo Gidley coming out on top. In the GT2 Class was close competition for Pole Sitter Kevin Woods. The GT4 Class pole honors went to Gray Newell; this is his second pole of the season. 

SRO3 Class
In the SRO3 Class the Top Five had elbows out as each driver turned fast lap after fast lap. It was the No. 101 TKO Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Gidley that would sit atop the leaderboard in the end with a Best Lap of 1:25.154. Johnny O’Connell in the No. 3 SKI Autosport Audi R8 LMS adds drama with his lap time of 1:25.379. He not only sits second on the grid but he splits the points leader Gidley from second in points Jason Daskalos. Daskalos in the No. 27 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 starts behind Gidley with his qualifying time of 1:25.391.


Mirco Schultis in the No. 70 MISHUMOTORS Corvette C7 GT3-R turned a 1:25.874 and will start the race fourth. George Kurtz held the pole position until the final few minutes. His No. 04 CrowdStrike by Riley Porsche 911 GT3 R set a Best Lap of 1:25.874. Adam Adelson in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R completes the third row.

GT2 Class
Kevin Woods in the No. 094 Chicago Performance & Tuning Co. KTM X-Bow GT2 took the first pole of the season for the GT2 Class. He turned a 1:29.032 to beat out Dan Knox in the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 who set a lap time of 1:29.791. Completing the three-car field is the No. CJ Moses in the No. 58 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2. Moses clocked a lap time of 1:31.043. 

GT4 Class
Gray Newell in the No. 25 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 is the Pole Sitter for the GT4 Class with a Best Lap time of 1:31.343. He beat out points leader Jason Bell in the No. 2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, who turned a 1:31.412. Robb Holland had his head down, pushing the No. 099 Rotek Racing Porsche 917 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport to a lap of 1:31.517. 

Holland is four points ahead of Ross Chouest in the championship fight and on the grid. Chouest in the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 start the race fourth with is lap time of 1:31.535. The No. 009 TRG Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Tim Savage will start behind on Row 3. The No. 5 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4 R of Tony Gaples is coming off a Race Two win at Sebring International Raceway and completes the third row and top six of the field.

Race One of the weekend takes place today, Friday, Oct. 6 at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, gives the GT America powered by AWS field a break as it's dedicated to the fourth running of the Indianapolis 8 Hour presented by AWS. The 2023 season comes to a close on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 8:35 a.m. with Race Two.
