GT America powered by AWS size up VIRginia International Raceway Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 18 for rounds seven and eight of the 2023 calendar bringing the season to its halfway point. 

There are 24 entries split by six manufacturers set for the grid. The GT America series had been two classes up until this point; however a GT2 car joins the mix in a class of its own. The GT2 in question is run by GMG Racing with CJ Moses in the No. 58 Audi R8 LMS GT2. Expanding the SRO3 Class is the new Turner Motorsports entry of Vincent Barletta. The 3.27-mile, 17-turn course sets flowing turns and fast straightaways inside the hills of Danville, Virginia. While not known for being an overly technical track competitors will have to learn the nuances of VIR to keep it clean and claim the top spot of the podium.


SRO3 Class
The No. 101 TKO Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Memo Gidley has been a strong front-runner if not a winner through most of the season thus far. With 144 points in the SRO3 Team Championship Gidley has a wide margin ahead of his competition. In second is CRP Racing with 118 points collected between the action of its two entries the No. 27 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Jason Daskalos and No. 41 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Todd Treffert. In third is the No. 04 CrowdStrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3 of George Kurtz who trails closely behind with 113 points. 

Joining the line of the points leaders and representing Mercedes-AMG are the two DXDT Racing entries, the No. 91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Jeff Burton and the No. 08 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Scott Smithson. The No. 427 RealTime Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Anthony Bartone rounds out the manufacturer’s entries. 

Representing Porsche on the grid in the SRO3 Class is the No. 460 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Andy Wilzoch, No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Adam Adelson and the No. 043 OnlyFans Racing with P1 Groupe by MRS Porsche 911 GT3 R. Representing Audi is the No. 3 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS who has been a firm contender for the podium.

Finally, bringing BMW into the mix is the No. 096 Turner Motorsports BMW M4 GT3 of Barletta making his return to SRO competition after a few year hiatus.


GT4 Class
Flying Lizard Motorsports runs the roost in the GT4 Class. At the lead with 162 points in the GT4 Class points battle are the No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Jason Bell and No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Elias Sabo. The No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Ross Chouest has pushed his way to the top with 125 points collected thus far. The Heart of Racing team sits third with 107 points thanks to the efforts Gray Newell in the No. 25 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.

Joining in the host Aston Martin’s on the grid is the No. 009 TRG Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Tim Savage and the No. 77 TR3 Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 of Paul Kiebler.

Porsche is well represented by Rotek Racing and Extreme Velocity Motorsports. Rotek returns with two entries in the No. 098 of Chris Alliegro and No. 099 of Robb Holland in their Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. The No. 99Extreme Velocity Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is driven by Matt Joffe. 

Rounding out the ultra-competitive class is the No. 5 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R of Tony Gaples and the No. 21 Carrus Callas Raceteam Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO of Nicholas Shanny. The two teams represent their selected manufacturers alone on the grid of 11 entries.

The GT2 Class is brought to life by GMG Racing. Virginia’s CJ Moses makes his 2023 season debut in the No. 58 Audi R8 LMS GT2.

The three-day event hosted at VIRginia International Raceway takes place Friday, June 16, through Sunday, June 18. Fans can purchase single-day tickets or three-day ticket packages. Nissan owners can join the Nissan exclusive car corral. At the same time, the Patriot Car Corral is open to vehicles of all kinds, with proceeds going to helping veterans of the United States and Canadian military. Tickets are on sale here. 

For fans unable to attend the event in person, the GT World YouTube page may do just the trick. The live stream covers all series races over the weekend, including Fanatec GT World Challenge America qualifying rounds.
