Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - GMG Racing's James Sofronas has captured the overall and SRO3 class pole position for Race 1 of the Road America weekend. Masters class points leader Charlie Luck will also lead weekend class competitors, while GT4 contingent will start with Sean Quinlan in front.
Sofronas' drive in the #14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS Ultra resulted in a 2-minute, 8.758-second qualifier that earned him the top spot on the front row. Memo Gidley's 0.031-second slower lap puts him in the perfect spot to contend in the #101 TKO with Flying Lizard Motorsports Bentley Continental GT3, where he'll start on the front row next to Sofronas.
Row two will see Luck's #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche at the front of the Masters class competitors, with another Master's class entry and Porsche driver, Flying Lizards Motorsports' Andy Wilzoch (#460 Porsche 911 GT3 R 991.2) slotted next to him.
A few rows back, Quinlan's 2:10.934 class pole-setting lap will sit him next to #2 GMG Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 driver Jason Bell. Behind them are #39 Mercedes-AMG GT4 driver Chris Cagnazzi and #76 Audi R8 LMS GT4 driver Alex Welch in GT4-class P3 and P4, respectively.
Results are provisional until posted Final. Race 1 goes green at 1:15 pm CT on Saturday. Catch the race live on the GT World YouTube channel, get the audio simulcast on SiriusXM Satellite Radio SXM392 (channel 992 on the app) and follow live timing and scoring at gtamerica.us/live
